The Bollinger B1 is the world’s first all-electric, all-wheel drive Sports Utility Truck and boy is she a beauty.
Built from the ground up in the United States, the Bollinger B1 features an aluminium chassis and dual-motor powertrain that provides full-time all-wheel drive along with best in class horsepower, torque and ground clearance.
The vehicle will be available in half or full cab variations and incorporates a rugged, heavy-duty truck design akin to the iconic Defender that will no doubt resonate with contemporary and traditional off-road vehicle enthusiasts.
Like Tesla’s vehicles, the entire drivetrain and battery storage system is located between the chassis rails which gives the Bollinger B1 a very low centre of gravity and a perfect 50/50 weight balance front to back and side to side, thus providing unsurpassed stability and storage space. The chassis also includes a hydraulic power steering system developed in-house, and it rides on Mud Terrain LT285/70/R17 tires with high-offset 17-inch aluminium wheels. Disconnecting anti-roll bars allow traction enhancing, full suspension articulation during off-road manoeuvres.
The B1’s synchronous electric motors will deliver up to 270 kW of power and get the SUT to 100km/h in just 4.5 secs. The production B1 will offer two lithium ion battery pack options: 60 kWh or 100 kWh, producing either 120 miles or 200 miles in range with a charge time of 12 hours, or 75 mins with a fast charger. Being a portable energy source the team has also added 100-volt plugs throughout the B1 so you can use it to power any equipment and tools on the go!
Bollinger last week said it’s too early to announce pricing but will start taking $1,000 deposits in early 2018 with deliveries to start within 19 months.
