Earlier this year I visited the Rolls-Royce Goodwood facility and said that my dealings with the Rolls-Royce brand have been unmatched, by any brand, in any category. To me, they are unrivalled, and if there was any doubt in your mind that Rolls-Royce wasn’t in a league of its own when it comes to luxury brands, let me introduce you to the VISION NEXT 100 Concept.
Yesterday at London’s Roundhouse, the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 Concept was presented, defining the future of luxury mobility. Codenamed 103EX, it is the marque’s first ever pure ‘Vision Vehicle’, where authentic personalisation meets an exquisite fusion of technology, design and hallmark Rolls-Royce craftsmanship.
The autonomous vehicle will be powered by a zero emissions powertrain and controlled by Eleanor, the owner’s virtual assistant and chauffeur. Imbued with her own artificial intelligence, she works intuitively to advise her owners on itineraries, schedules and options before they leave their residence, reminding about appointments and tasks and making suggestions to ease any anticipated impediments.
Once Eleanor has brought the car around, the owners step into the Grand Sanctuary from a standing height taking advantage of a clam shell style opening roof and suicide door. Automatic doors close once the passengers have sat down on the luxurious sofa and taken in the opulent surrounds, including a huge OLED screen and deep-pile ivory wool carpet.
The exterior channels the brand’s timeless marques, with graceful, sweeping lines and expressive surfaces that combine to create a completely futuristic vision of a possible Rolls-Royce exterior. From whatever angle the VISION NEXT 100 is viewed, it is designed to float, whether at rest or in motion. Interestingly this is a point I made when I reviewed the Ghost, that the car floats along the road – an illusion aided by the famous waft line on the brand’s current vehicles.
This vehicle thinks outside the box in so many ways and each of the pictures below are worth 1000 words on their own.
