The Merivale owned Ivy complex, reported to have cost as much as $150 million to build, will be demolished to make way for a 55-storey hotel.
Merivale owner Justin Hemmes confirmed the plans in The Daily Telegraph over the weekend, saying the CBD site, which he acquired for $22 million in 2004 was always intended to be a holding development site with a hotel the grand plan.
“That was the reason I kept ivy as a low-rise development, so it could be knocked down eventually.”
Along with the multi-level bar and Pool Club, fine diners will mourn the loss of Uccello, Felix and Ash St Cellars.
Merivale have yet to confirm when the complex and it’s many venues will close, let’s hope it’s not the last we see of some of Sydney’s great eateries.
