We cruised the streets of Montreal for 5 days and ducked in and out of countless shops, some stood out more than others. Here is out list of top menswear stores in Montreal.
1. Clusier Habilleur – 432 McGill St Montreal
Clusier is a sartorial menswear delight situated in Old Town, Montreal. It consists of made-to-measure suiting, Carmina shoes and a range of excellent European menswear labels, such as L.B.M. 1911 and Pal Zileri. The shop windows are exquisitely fit out and it’s what grabbed our attention as we strolled past. The shop itself is quite small, but offers some amazing pieces. The LBM 1911 range was a highlight with a great selection of blazers for both the fashion forward and conservative. Clusier is a must see for any menswear enthusiasts visiting Montreal.
2. Rooney – 395 Notre Dame St W Montreal
Situated down in the beautiful Old Montreal area, Rooney was one of the nicest stores we visited. Owner Alex Danino has sourced a worldly range of brands such as Our Legacy, Oliver Spencer, Dana Lee, Mark McNairy, Officine Generale as well as a great range of labels we’d not heard of before. It’s always pleasant finding new brands when you’re travelling and the one that caught out our eye in Rooney was The Hill-Side, which I’ve consequently discovered is stocked in a couple of stores in Australia. Their mixture of textured and patterned ties, pockets and accessories were fantastic. We also loved Danish brand Makr, whose travel accessories and baggage range was some of the best in town.
Rooney is the type of store you could go into each week and find something worth buying. Along with clothing there’s an excellent range of men’s related publications such as Man of the World , Kinfolk and Inventory Magazine. If ever in Montreal, make sure you check it out.
3. U&I – 3650 St Laurent Blvd Montreal
For 14 years U&I has been at the forefront of Montreal fashion, with a store in both Old Town and on St Laurent Boulevard they stock a range of high end and boutique labels, think Comme De Garco, A.P.C. and ACNE. Take your time in working your way through U&I as there is a lot of clothing and don’t be afraid to ask the very knowledgeable staff a few questions.
4. Boutique Duo – 24 Prince Arthur St W Montreal
Located just off Boulevard Saint-Laurent Boutique Duo sits in the middle of a vibrant part of town full of great bars and small cafes. The range of clothes they stock juxtaposes the area they’re in, with high end labels like Ralph Lauren Black Label and Saint Laurent filling the hangers. They stock some excellent shoes as well, think Paul Smith, Dior Homme and Lanvin plus the staff were super friendly. We even spotted some Zanerobe chinos on the racks, always nice to see Australian brands getting a look into top stores overseas.
