Longines Hit Home Run With Avigation BigEye Chronograph Another stunning retro reissue.

And the vintage hits just keep on coming! It seems like only yesterday I was applauding Tissot for their 1948 Chronograph, one of my favourite vintage pieces to date, only to be blown away yet again by Longines. With the likes of the Legend Diver and Flagship Heritage, Longines aren’t strangers to a beautiful reissue and this Avigation BigEye Chronograph continues their fine run of form.

Inspired by their Aviation Collection spanning the century but focusing primarily on a design from the 1930’s, the newly realised Avigation BigEye sports an L688 movement with a 54-hour power reserve, housed in a 41mm case. The modern sized case features a contemporary brushed finish which blends seamlessly with the oversized pushers, typical of the period.

The absence of a date window under the domed sapphire crystal and classic three-register layout make for a clean and well-spaced dial complete with green Super-Luminova on the hour markers and hands. The 30 minute counter at the 3 position is slightly larger than the other two chronograph registers with larger markers, improving readability and giving the watch its ‘Big Eye’ nickname. Completing the retro reissue is a distressed leather strap.

With an RRP of $3450 AUD, it’s hard to fault this timeless Avigation BigEye Chronograph.
