The BIG3, the upcoming three-on-three basketball league founded by Ice Cube featuring former professional players, announced yesterday that it will open its season June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
“Brooklyn has been on our radar since we started the BIG3,” Ice Cube said in a statement on Big3.com. “From the pickup courts to the pros, New York’s hoops history is unrivalled. Legends are born here, and kicking this thing off at the iconic Barclays Center could not be more fitting.”
A host of former NBA stars featured on your childhood basketball cards will compete in the league, including Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Jermaine O’Neal, Kenyon Martin, Rashard Lewis, Mike Bibby, Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette and Jason Williams.
Additionally, a number of former stars will also serve as coaches in the three-on-three league, including Rick Barry, Clyde Drexler, George Gervin, Gary Payton and Rick Mahorn. Allen Iverson will serve as a player-coach.
Teams will be able to draft three additional players from a pool that includes former players like Brian Scalabrine, Latrell Sprewell, Larry Hughes, Kenny Anderson, Eddie Robinson, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and J.R. Rider, among others. A player combine and draft will be held in April.
