Jaguar have finally unveiled the car that will enter the most popular luxury car segment on earth – the mid sized luxury sedan. The 2015 Jaguar XE was unveiled in London on Monday night and will compete head on with the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes Benz C-Class and the Audi A4. The XE is unmistakably Jaguar, in fact if you didn’t know what you were looking for you’d think it was an updated XF.
“Our mission was to create an exciting and dynamic design clearly reflecting the XE’s positioning as a serious driver’s car,” said Jaguar design boss, Ian Callum. “The cab-rearward proportions and tight packaging achieve that and give the XE the appearance of movement even when it’s standing still. It bears a strong family resemblance to the F-TYPE and will stand apart in the crowd.”
Inside, the design and the overall feeling looks strongly inspired by the F-Type, especially the dashboard and the dual-binnacle instrument panel. The XE will employ a new infotainment system called “InControl” with an eight-inch touchscreen that allows users of iOS and Android smartphones to connect to the car from wherever they are and control a range of vehicle functions.
Jaguar says that the XE is the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic saloon it has ever built and have confirmed two engine variants for launch with more to come. The XE will feature the brand’s newly developed range of Ingenium modular engines with a choice of a 2.0-litre turbo diesel or the F-Type‘s killer 3.0-litre supercharged V6 with 335bhp for the sporty S model. An automated 8-speed transmission will be built into the majority of new XE cars however a six-speed manual gearbox will be offered for some engine variants as well – this however is yet to be confirmed.
With Jaguar going from strength to strength this will be an exciting automobile and one that will undoubtedly entice buyers away from its German adversaries.
